Ground zero


The term zero(sometimes called the surface of zero , in contrast to zero) describes the point on the surface of the Earth closest to the blast.In the case of an explosion above the ground, Ground Zero is the point on the ground directly beneath the explosion (see hypocenter).

The concept has often been associated with nuclear explosions and other large bombs, but is also used in relation to earthquakes to epidemics and other disasters highlight the point of the most serious damage or destruction. The term is often reused for the disasters that have a geographic or conceptual epicenter.
